Sandy Point - paradise at Waratah Bay

Welcome to Sandy Point,

a small holiday paradise at beautiful Waratah Bay - just two hours drive from Melbourne.

Only here will you find the unique combination of a relaxing time out - away from the hustle and bustle of Melbourne or overrun holiday places - and challenging water sports in an amazing natural setting. Whether you want to bake in the sun, enjoy the fishing or break the world sailing speed record - this is the place to be.

Nestled among tea trees at the feet of Wilsons Promontory at beautiful Waratah Bay, Sandy Point offers its own small town center with supermarket, take away and restaurant. Everything you need to look after yourself is available here - no need to pack the car with lots of food before embarking on your holidays.

The Sandy Point beach is second to none. Classified as one of the safest beaches in Victoria its fine white sand stretches to the horizon. No need to beat a crowd to find your spot - even if you need lots of space for yourself.

During holidays and on many long weekends you can end your beach day with a cuppa or a drink at the modern life saving center -  the only building you can see from the beach.

Designed to form part of the landscape the club offers large function rooms - just the right place to organize a wedding or celebration out of the ordinary. Of course your guests will find suitable accommodation at Sandy View to top off a great day.

Another one of Sandy Points great attractions is Shallow Inlet. Overlooked by the mountains of Wilsons Promontory it is arguably one of the world's best Windsurfing spots - and definitively the fastest. After all, this is where the current world sailing speed record of 86.21 km/h (53.57 mph) was achieved over a 500m track.

But Shallow Inlet is also a great spot for fishing from the shore or by boat, with common catches including King George Whiting, Flathead, Trevally and Australian Salmon. Rental boats are available from the Sandy Point General Store (phone: 03-5684 1362).

Or go for a walk through the dunes, which form a spectacular landscape between Shallow Inlet and the Bay.
